CABESTAN’s contribution at the Goldschmidt 2026 Conference

Between 12 and 17 July, the annual international geochemistry congress — the Goldschmidt Conference — will take place in Montréal. This year, Pierre Anschutz, coordinator of the CABESTAN project, is organising a session on the coastal and marine carbon cycle. The session is entitled: “Benthic biogeochemistry, alkalinity, ocean hypoxia, acidification and AI: exploring ocean change” and is held in honour of Alfonso Mucci.

A scientific session dedicated to the contributions of Professor Alfonso Mucci in the field of marine and environmental geochemistry will be held during the Goldschmidt 2026 Conference, organised in Montréal (Canada) from 12 to 17 July.

Alfonso has made major advances in our understanding of biogeochemical processes in aquatic systems, and his scientific leadership, mentorship and collaborative spirit have had a profound impact on our community. The aim of this session is to highlight research inspired by his work, celebrate his scientific legacy, and bring together colleagues, collaborators, students and friends.

Alfonso’s research themes:

  • Marine and coastal biogeochemistry
  • Sediment–water interactions and benthic processes
  • Carbonate chemistry and ocean acidification
  • Trace metal cycling and speciation
  • Environmental geochemistry in aquatic systems
